Banyuwangi: Ijen Vulcano Blue Fire Guided Tour

The tour begins before dawn as you leave Banyuwangi and head toward the Ijen trailhead. Once the night trek starts, you’ll ascend through cool mountain air and gentle forest trails toward the crater rim. From a designated viewpoint, you’ll observe the surreal blue fire—produced by ignited sulfuric gases—glowing in the darkness.

As morning approaches, you’ll continue to the upper viewpoint, where the sunrise slowly reveals the dramatic landscape. The turquoise crater lake, one of the most acidic in the world, glows beneath the soft morning light as volcanic cliffs tower around it. After taking in the panoramic scenery and capturing the moment, you’ll trek back down and return to Banyuwangi, carrying the memory of one of Java’s most extraordinary natural spectacles.

• Mount Ijen is closed every first Friday of the month.
• Passport and a Health Certificate are required for the Mount Ijen entrance ticket.
• For pickups at Ketapang Port or Banyuwangi Train Station, please be ready at 23:00.
• Pickup/drop-off in the Licin area incurs an additional charge of IDR 150,000 per booking (not per person).
• Expect a long journey for pickup/drop-off from Bali.
• Blue fire sightings are not guaranteed; visibility depends on natural conditions.
• Due to the July 2024 earthquake, visitors are not allowed to descend into the crater. Blue fire may be viewed only from approximately 500 meters away at the crater rim.
